Forty Years of Claridge Homes

Claridge Homes’ history dates back to 1986, when it was founded by Bill Malhotra. Named after The Claridge, a luxury hotel in New Delhi that Malhotra visited as a child, Claridge Homes remains a family-owned and operated business, with father and sons at the helm. With the majority of its projects located right here in Ottawa, Claridge Homes remains committed to its roots—building vibrant communities in the city’s most enviable locations.

Creating Communities Across the City

In its early years, Claridge Homes focused on low-rise residential development, building single-family homes and townhomes for families settling into Ottawa’s growing suburban communities. As the city expanded west, south, and east, Claridge was proud to grow alongside it—helping shape neighbourhoods in places like Kanata, Barrhaven, and Riverside South.

With a thoughtful approach to layout, streetscapes, and access to schools, green space, and everyday amenities, Claridge became known for creating welcoming, well-planned communities where people truly feel at home. This commitment to serving the community we call home has led to the development of more than 75 communities and over 14,000 homes and residential units across the Ottawa–Carleton region.

A Growing Focus on Rentals

While traditional homeownership remains an important part of Ottawa’s housing landscape, Claridge Homes has increasingly embraced purpose-built rental communities to better meet the needs of today’s residents. This shift reflects a growing understanding that people’s lives, priorities, and circumstances change—and that flexible, professionally managed rental living plays a vital role in supporting those transitions.

Communities like Claridge Ascent and Muze on Rideau bring this approach to life, offering modern apartment suites with thoughtful layouts, welcoming amenities, and easy access to transit, services, and employment. These are more than places to live—they’re intentionally designed communities where residents can feel comfortable, connected, and supported in their day-to-day lives.

Claridge has also extended this people-first philosophy to age-specific rental communities, including Magnolia Square, a 55+ residence curated for active, independent living. With tailored amenities and social spaces, Magnolia Square allows residents to downsize without giving up the sense of belonging, independence, and engagement.

Through continued investment in purpose-built rentals, Claridge Homes has broadened its impact beyond homeownership—helping address Ottawa’s diverse housing needs while staying true to its commitment to building inclusive, thoughtfully planned communities where people can truly feel at home.

A Lasting Impact on Ottawa

Across four decades, Claridge Homes’ influence can be seen in family homes in growing suburbs, purpose-built rental communities, and 55+ living spaces. The company’s evolution mirrors Ottawa’s own transformation, balancing low-rise neighbourhoods with urban rental options and age-specific living.

As Claridge Homes marks its 40th anniversary, the milestone represents more than longevity. It reflects an ongoing role in shaping how and where Ottawa lives — grounded in experience, responsive to change, and focused on building communities that endure.
